Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action may be bringing a book or artefact related to the inquiry to school, or student initiated drawings/posters/research. We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our classrooms. If you see your children taking independent action at home encourage them to share their action with their class.

Changes to the earth’s surface impact human lives

The children’s learning in this Unit of Inquiry will culminate in an exhibition of their research and a demonstration of their models of natural disasters. This will be held in the Year 5 end of the Senior Learning Centre and you will be invited. You will be notified of a date and time in the next few weeks.

Action

Some possible actions related to our Central Idea may include your child demonstrating curiosity about current affairs and the natural world. They may wish to bring artefacts from home. This may generate an interest in supporting a community who have been affected by natural disasters or simply a demonstration of empathy for their plight. We would love to hear about any actions/discussions your child may initiate at home.

Organisations make decisions that impact on humans and the environment

Action

Year 5 students will be involved in a wide range of experiences during this Unit of Inquiry. They will complete a formal, teacher-directed ‘action’ in the form of the mini-fete during the last week of the term. However, there may be other actions that this Unit instigates either at home or at school. We would love to hear about these.
