Principal's Report

Jells Park Primary School

Principal:                         Kevin Oakey

Assistant Principal:     David O'Kane

2018 - What a year!!

Wrapping up a year is always a huge job because there is always so much that happens and so much to acknowledge.

Can I start with a massive thanks to all the staff at Jells Park PS who are dedicated and hard working, not only as teachers in the classroom, but also supporters of all the extra-curricular activities in the school. While we are well known for all the programs we run, it is important to note that we are also a high performing school by academic standards. Our NAPLAN results are always well above state average and comparable to 'like' schools. In 2017 our results in Literacy and Numeracy were ranked very high in our School Performance Report. We also received an Outstanding School Award for Maths Talent Quest, one of just 4 in Victoria, and multiple High Distinctions and Distinctions for UNSW exams. There is plenty of strength and rigour to our academic curriculum!!

And then the added benefit of all the extra-curricular activities that engage and educate our students. We achieved a medal at National Schoolaerobics, top 5 results at RACV, High Distinction at ToM, students in State School Spectacular, successes in a raft of sports and heaps more 'in-school' activities like lunchtime clubs, coding club, chess club, and on, and on!!!

Cristmas Spirit

Christmas is a time of joy and happiness, a time to enjoy with family and friends. It is a time for gift giving to show our love and appreciation to others. It is also a time to give thanks for how lucky we are AND to consider those much less fortunate than us.

At Christmas time this year please think of all those children in Australia and Melbourne that will not get any Christmas gifts and cannot experience the real joy of Christmas time. BUT you can help. Jells Park PS has set up the Kmart Wishing Tree in the administration office. The Kmart Wishing Tree is an opportunity for all familes to donate a gift for a child. These gifts are collected by the Salvation Army and distributed to less fortunate children before Christmas. Please do not wrap the present.

Thank you very much for your generosity and caring!!

2018 Parent contributions - Now Due

Letters outlining the Parent Contributions for 2018 were sent out at the beginning of Term 4. Jells Park PS relies heavily on these contributions being paid to support the programs that we run. It is particularly important that the Excursion Levy is paid in 2017 to ensure bookings can be confirmed and students are able to attend these opportinities to enhance classroom learning. The Excursion/Incursion program starts early in Term 1 so we ask that all families please pay this Levy together with all Contributions so planning for this program can commence. Payment on Qkr would be greatly appreciated and takes just a couple of minutes.

Jordan G - Team VIC

Jordan was selected as a member of the SSV State Track & Field Team to compete at the Pacific School Games in Adelaide last week. He competed in the 11years Boys 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.

Competition was pretty tough and Jordan aquitted himself really well. The 200m was first up and he ran a personal best time of 27.61sec to qualify for the final. Into a tough headwind the final didn't go fully to plan and Jordan finished 8th.

In the 100m Jordan qualified for the final in a time of 13.74sec and then had a slight improvement to 13.70sec to finish 8th in the final.

With 2 other Victorian boys in the 100m final, the relay team was in good shape to snare a medal, which eventuated with a slick run by the Vic boys. With Jordan anchoring the relay, they snared a Bronze Medal, behind Queensland and NSW. It was a great championship for Jordan and he represented himself, his family, his school and the state with pride and 100% effort. Great job Jordy!!

2017 Annual Concert

What a fantastic Performance. The students have worked exceedingly hard over the term to produce this outstanding production. The dancing and singing were top class and the smiles on the student faces were priceless.

A huge thank you to all the staff - they are passionate, dedicated, talented and committed. They work exceedingly hard to make events successful and to provide the best possible learning environment and educational opportunities for all your children.  This can be evidenced in 2017 through the concert, RACV Energy Challenge, Danceaerobics, State School Spectacular, MTQ, a brilliant Art Show, ToM, and much more.

Jells Park PS would like to thank the following people, whose special talents have contributed so much to the Concert's Success.

  • The band: Justin, Lachlan and Peter,
  • Our music teacher Troy Cartwright who taught and conducted all the song to the students,
  • Gillian Dodd & Melissa McLeod, the Stage Managers,

EAL End of year party

For our final EAL session for 2017, all students worked together to prepare food to share at our party.

Our older students worked with a younger student.  They used information from a photo to work out the ingredients that were needed and then, how to construct either a banana Santa or a gingerbread house.

Ellaha R 4L brought along food to share and Katie Y 4K decorated a beautiful gingerbread house to share with the other students.

D-PAWS PROGRAM

Merry Christmas!

As we come to the end of the 2017 school year, looking back one of the significant improvements made at JPPS has to be the introduction of Ziggy to the school community. Seeing every bodies face light up at her wiggly tail is evidence that she is making a positive impact on staff , students, parents and the wider school community alike. In 2018 we hope to see the introduction of the D-PAWS club and for Ziggy to complete her intermediate training. Thank you for all your support this year, it is nice to know that the D-Paws program is valued as an important part of the school Wellbeing program.

A BIG thank you to all the staff and parents who gave up their time to help with the Bunnings BBQ on Sunday 10 December. We raised just over $1100 for Ziggy, which is a great result!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Miss McLeod on [email protected]

We are very fortunate to have three community sponsors already and are always looking for more, so if you or anyone you know might be able to help please contact Miss McLeod at [email protected]

Families are also able to donate toward the cost of Ziggy's care through the Qkr app.

A huge thank you to Mulgrave Country Club for their generous donation towards Ziggy's training and food costs, Brandon Park Vet for their support of the program through free puppy classes and subsidized vet costs and to Waverley Park Dental Care for covering the costs of Ziggy's obedience training.

Jells Park Parents Committee (JPPC)

JELLS PARK PARENTS COMMITTEE (JPPC)

Hello Everyone!

A very big thank you to all the JPPC members who assisted with the setup and sales at the recent Second Hand Uniform Stall. We had a very large attendance particularly from new Foundation parents for next year. If you have any second hand uniforms that you no longer use and that are in good condition you can donate them to the school office anytime.

A very big thank you to all the JPPC members who assisted with pre-concert drinks on Wednesday night at our end of year school concert. Congratulations and well done Teachers and Students for your spectacular and successful concert performances. We have our final performance tonight and thank you to the JPPC members helping with pre-concert drinks tonight.

As the year comes to an end I would like to thank all of the JPPC members for their valuable contributions throughout the entire year. Without their support and dedication it would be impossible to run so many successful events for the school community and to ultimately raise vital funds to help support and improve our school.

Finally, I would like to wish all families, teachers and staff a very Merry Christmas and a Safe, Happy and Prosperous New Year.

We look forward to seeing you all in 2018. We have many exciting events planned for next year including a fun Family Twilight Market in March.

The email address for Jells Park Parents Committee is [email protected]

I can also be contacted on 0434146228 or [email protected] if anyone has any further queries.
