Assistant Principal's Message

Mrs. Angelides

Mrs. Angelides recovered from her illness in time to board the plane and jet off to Greece last Wednesday. She is now enjoying a well- deserved holiday, soaking up the sun, cruising the Greek Islands, enjoying the beautiful scenery and catching up with friends and relatives.

We wish her a happy and safe journey and will see her return on Monday 18th September.

Last week we received our Naplan results.  Students in Years 3 and 5 would have taken home a copy of their individual results.  The results were very pleasing, a testament to the hard work put in by both the teachers and the students.  We would like to share our results with the community.

The graphs below show a summary of the results for the five tested domains.

As you can see the Year 3 Reading doesn’t register on the graph – our results are off the chart and into Band 7. All of the domains, in both Years 3 and 5, show we are achieving above the State standards.

We should all be very proud and celebrate such results.

Working Bee

We will be holding our next Working Bee on Sunday 10th September and would love to see many families attending to help maintain and tidy our beautiful grounds.  An invitation will be extended shortly and we ask that you RSVP so we can cater for expected numbers.

Athletics Training

Over the last couple of weeks Year 3 to 6 students have been training hard and undertaking trials in the attempt to be chosen for the school athletic team.  A huge thank you to Mladen Canadi (Head Coach) for giving up his time to organise and run these sessions, along with Mrs Kelly.  Also thanks to all the other parents who were involved in this – it would be extremely difficult to offer such training if not for the community support we receive.  Mrs. Kelly has prepared the team list (which is displayed on the board in the Senior Learning Area) and these students will be attending the MPSSA Athletics on Monday 4th September.

Parent Opinion Survey

We were notified on Friday 25th August that the closing date for the online Parent Opinion Survey has been extended to Sunday 3rd September 2017.  Parents can submit completed online surveys until 11:59pm Sunday 3rd September.

Book Week

Last week we held some fun activities to celebrate ‘Book Week’.

Mr. Leeden has written a small piece about the activities and included some photos in this week’s newsletter – enjoy.

Staff Professional Development

At times Staff attend professional development days to up skill and learn of evolving educational issues and trends. Miss Samuels and Miss Hoffner attended such a day on Friday 25th August. “Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder – Teaching Strategies and Behaviour Support with Sue Larkey”.  Sue Larkey is a highly qualified special educator who has taught in mainstream and special schools.  Sue has authored several books and is unashamedly passionate about her mission – to inspire parents and educators and teach them how to ‘Make it a Success’.

Miss Samuels and Miss Hoffner will be sharing their learnings with staff at a staff meeting soon..

Book Week 2017

Last week we celebrated Book Week. Students were engaged in a variety of book activities and literature studies in their classes. Teachers even chose a favourite story to read and share with different classes across the school. The week concluded with our whole school silent reading session.

We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who joined us last Friday for the reading session. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying reading together and sharing their favourite stories.
