Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese’s Primary School,
Thank you to everyone who came along to the Welcome BBQ last Friday night. It was a great night with KABOOM! providing the students with plenty of fun activities and to our Advisory Board members who helped at the BBQ. A very special thank you to all the staff who stayed back to cook, serve, take photos, clean up and enjoy the company of all the families. I am always humbled at the extra time staff give to St Therese’s and I know this is why our school has such a great community feel to it. Judging by the 500 sausages that were consumed I feel it was a success all round!
Don’t forget this Thursday, February 21 we will have our school photos. Please send your child in their full summer uniform. If they have sport on this day, we ask that you send them in their school uniform, not their sports uniform and put their runners in their school bags for their sports lesson. Thank you to all parents for ensuring that your children are in the correct uniform.
Parents and Friends Association
Please consider helping at the school by joining in with the organisation of an activity that is led by the Parents and Friends Association.
Currently, we are looking for helpers for the Easter Egg Raffle and the Mother’s Day Stall. These type of events can only go ahead with parent helpers. See the Parents and Friends page in the newsletter for more details and dates.
Volunteer Helper Induction Sessions
If you are considering helping at the school please don’t forget to come along to one of the Volunteer Helper Induction sessions. We look forward to our next session which will occur on Wednesday 20th February from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. There will be a third session on Tuesday 5th March at 7:00pm-8:00pm. These sessions are compulsory for any parent who wishes to help in the classroom, attend excursions, etc and who did not do the training last year. Please understand that it is a requirement of the Child Safety Laws that all volunteers must hold a current Working With Children Card. If you would like to attend a session please respond on CareMonkey or contact the office.
I have noticed that some parents are dropping their children and letting them walk across the road, avoiding the school crossing. A child was very nearly injured this week and I urge all parents to encourage their children to utilise the crossing if they need to cross over the road.
Spirit of Catholic Education Awards
Nominations for the Spirit of Catholic Education Awards are open until March 15. Any staff member or student in a Catholic school may nominate any person in his/her school community who has made a significant difference to the lives of others in one or more of the two core purpose areas.
Inspiring Faith - This seeks to identify persons who have made a significant contribution to the development of students’ faith lives. It may include exemplary work in Religious Education, parish involvement, the school’s spiritual life, social justice or day-to-day exemplification of Gospel values.
Inspiring Learning - This seeks to identify persons who have made a significant contribution to student learning. It may include exemplary classroom and specialist teaching. Nominees should demonstrate a clear commitment to contemporary pedagogy.
Finally, I would like to welcome Mrs Lyn Kelly back from retirement. Lyn has kindly agreed to help us out in the Year Three Level four mornings a week. We are all very happy to have her back at St Therese’s while she puts her retirement on hold for a while! Thanks, Lyn!
I hope you all have a terrific week,
Yours in partnership,
