In response to our recent communications survey to receive your child's activities information via electronic channels, such as by email or through an app, we are starting a 30 day trial of the Skoolbag App on Tuesday 13th February. The trial will be available to community members who have IPhones or Ipads. The App will allow us to update the community with simple push notifications via a secure login. Families will be able to download the SkoolBag App to their phone or table or access it via the website plugin. This app will perform a different function to the internal DET SMS alert system.  Please see the reminder re SMS permission forms below.

Nature's Wonders

This week there is a new area in the Hall – Nature’s Wonders.

Thanks to Sadie for bringing in the natural materials for students to explore, touch and smell. We invite everyone to come and read the children’s discoveries. Stay tuned as the garden will grow and be added to over the remainder of the term.

District swimming

This morning students from grade 4, 5 & 6 attended the swimming trials at Queens Park pool. Eighty-eight students participated in the trials, which involved 50 metre freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.  Thank you to the parents who assisted in timekeeping and to teachers Kim, Maddie, Fiona and Michelle who ensured all students tried their best and supported each other. At the end of the trials the students were treated to a free swim in the pool. Thanks to Bree for her organisation and to the students whose behaviour and camaraderie was exemplary.

Music News

Senior Choir

In 2018 the MPW senior choir will once again explore the elements of singing and performance through developing a repertoire of songs for an end of year musical (show TBC).  Our goal is to enable the students to participate in and bring together the many facets of the arts such as music, singing, acting and dancing.  The process of rehearsing and performing spoken and sung dialogue develops language skills and provides a platform for students to take positive risks and build self-confidence. Everyone will be involved and have an integral role to play (big or small) to present this year’s musical. Every student develops life skills such as responsibility, collaboration, respect, self-confidence & co-operation.

The best part is…A musical is fun!

In addition, 20 members of the senior choir will participate in the 2018 Victorian State Schools Spectacular mass choir. This experience allows the students to be part of a professionally staged production which includes a cast of almost 3000 government school students all working towards a common goal in a collaborative, competition-free environment. The students attending gain an invaluable performing arts opportunity to work under the direction of internationally renowned industry professionals across all disciplines and in doing so experience the dedication, discipline, practice and time needed to produce such an amazing show, not to mention the excitement of performing live in front of thousands of people.

Junior Choir

In 2018 the junior choir (grades 1 – 2) will engage in singing and music making activities that will allow the students to explore music concepts and develop a sense of rhythm, pitch, dynamics and expression, form and structure, timbre and texture. The junior choir will prepare various musical items to perform at an assembly each term. The smaller performances are intended to provide a variety of song styles while gradually building the students confidence to perform.

Looking forward to another sensational year.

Choir Leader

Lost Property

In 2017 - a significant amount of unnamed clothing and unnamed plastic containers were donated to charity each month.

Our lost property is managed by parent volunteers and we need your help to reduce this  workload and loss of property.

You can help by:

  • ensuring all belongings are clearly marked with student's names and room numbers
  • regularly check (and encourage your child/ren to check) for their lost property
  • remember it is the responsibility of students and families to regularly check lost property and reclaim items

When is unnamed lost property cleared and donated to charity?

  • Last Friday of every month

Where is lost property?

In the causeway at the entry to room 7 and 8 (near the toilet block off the little adventure playground).
