Principal's Report

Parent Opinion Survey

A reminder to all our families who were randomly selected to receive this year’s Parent Opinion Survey, that the closing date has been extended to 18th August.  The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 percent of parents have been invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The Department yesterday informed me that at present we have 26 responses from the 100 surveys sent out. A huge thank you to the families who have responded and a plea to those who haven’t as yet responded to do so by the 18th August. Thank you.

Disco Fever has hit Syndal South, tomorrow night is the big event. The Junior Disco for students in Foundation to Year 2 starts at 6 o’clock followed by the Senior Disco for students in Years 3 to 6 at 7.15 pm. Tickets are still available online. ‘Glo Sticks’ will be available for sale on the night.

Free Dress

Free Dress tomorrow don’t forget to bring your 170, 180 or 200 gram block of chocolate for the ‘chocolate toss’  activity at the Fete.

Student News

Chess Kids

Young chess players improve their skills faster if they have the opportunity to play chess between their weekly lessons. We recognise that not all students have the ability to play against someone between their lessons each week, so we have researched online options for students to practice their skills. is a child safe website for playing chess online, anonymously, against other kids. The website has no chat function and no identifying information about players. We feel that this is the safest online website for children.

Kids Unlimited have worked with to enable chess parents to register for a free account.

Your school's sign-up link for parents is:
The free account provides access to unlimited anonymous games against other kids, chess puzzles and online lessons. Playing chess more often will increase children's overall engagement with the game of chess, and keep them motivated as their skills improve quickly!

Year 1/2

Tuesday 13th August (1.50pm in Hall) -  NO PMP next week!

Thursday 15th August (2.30pm) -  Lesley Groenewald, Zoe De Blasio, Sharon Burgess.

Active Transport

Half the students of the 1970’s rode their bikes to school. Today, only 20% do. And it’s been proved that those who cycle arrive at school mentally brighter. We currently have 21 Walk/Ride2School members but only 9 Joggers Club members. With some early signs of Spring (the blossoms are out), now is a good time to put some spring back into your step and get walking, skipping, jogging or running your way our magnificent joggers track. Don’t forget to get your Joggers Card or Bike Riding passport each time you walk or ride to school.

SDSSA Winter Sport

Due to severe weather warnings issued today, the Annual Syndal District Winter Sport Round Robin to be held at Parkhill Primary School tomorrow has been cancelled.

Footy Tipping

We are down to the last 3 rounds. Following the completion of Round 20, there has been little change to the leaderboard with Sandy Pie still on top with 114. He must be feeling the heat, with half a dozen tipsters breathing down his neck. Does he play safe and go with the favorites or does he feel brave and try to extend his lead with some roughies. All soon to be revealed. Jackpot sits at $20 this week, so a chance to get your money back - Good Luck!
