School Council Report

Your School Council Report

Council met with  a Macedon Ranges Shire Council Officer to discuss its plans to advance the Early Learning Centre funding process. We heard from the Shire Council that they are considering how to ensure there's a good outcome with minimal disruption to the school if construction was to commence, and we are meeting on 14 June to consider a motion on KPS Council's "in-principle support" for the funding application process to continue and consultations will be ongoing.

There is a strong commitment from school council members to ensure that the Early Learning Centre's function takes the welfare of the school and its community into consideration, and we intend to participate fully in the process throughout.

Council also discussed the matter of the locked back gate, Alistair explaining the security reasons that underlie this choice. A working group is examining if a timed lock can be installed at low enough cost to permit a slightly longer window for entry/exit at drop off and pickup.

Please contact [email protected] if you have thoughts!

Thanks,

Andrew

From the Principal

Professional Practice Days at KPS

In the Education State, we achieve excellence by consistently focusing on improving the achievements of learners across Victoria, whether it is through improving the quality of educational services or changing the way we teach.

The most important thing we can do to improve student outcomes is to develop and improve the skills of our teachers.

The Victorian Government will continue to provide opportunities to develop professional, passionate teachers and principals and equip them with the right knowledge and skills to meet the needs of their students.

To ensure we support the learning and development of not only our students, but our teachers too; we are committed to providing professional development opportunities for our teacher workforce.

Teachers will spend four days per year further developing their skills in areas that are aligned to the school priorities. Students will directly benefit from these improvements in their daily learning.

You may have noticed that recently our teachers have been taking time to improve their delivery of teaching and learning through the professional practice days. These days have predominately focussed on addressing their performance and development goals and moderation of student work samples as we aim to improve consistency in teacher judgements for the purpose of writing end of semester student reports.

The professional practice days are part of the Victorian Government Schools Agreement 2017. Each full time teacher is entitled to one day per term (four days per year), to focus on the improved delivery of high quality teaching and learning.

We know children sometimes find it challenging when their teacher is away from the classroom. At KPS we are extremely lucky to have access to a high quality pool of casual relief teachers to work with our children when their teacher is involved in professional learning.

There is a learning plan in place to ensure that your child’s education continues as usual.

We are scheduling the days ahead of time and have planned the day so that there is minimal impact.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Student Attendance

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by logging your child’s absence using our school’s Parental Portal in Compass at https://kynetonps-vic.compass.education

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

From the end of Term 2 2018, all Victorian government schools are required to contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.

This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.

The Draft Kyneton Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available by following this link: Draft Attendance Policy.

Contact Details

There are times when we will need to contact you, including on the day if your child is absent and you have not informed the school as to why. Do we have your most up to date contact details?  If not, please contact the school by email  to [email protected] or on 5422 1855  so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details or your circumstances change.

Statements

Financial Statements are being sent home this week.  Please pay outstanding amounts.  If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Special Order Photos

Photos are available for the following groups - School Captains, Student Council, House Captains and Sustainability Leaders.  Photos can be viewed at the office and cost $12.  Orders need to be placed by the end of Term 2 2018.

Camps, Excursions and Sporting Events

Camps, excursions and sporting events must be paid and consented by the due date otherwise children are unable to attend.  This is due to having to confirm numbers with service providers and the amount of additional work to school staff created chasing up payment and forms.  If you are having difficulties making payments please contact the school as arrangements may be able to be made to assist you.

CSEF

To receive funding for CSEF, you need to hold a current concession card. The funding can only be used for Camps, Sports and Excursions. If you applied at this school in 2017, you do not need to re-apply. Please contact office staff for more information.
