Assistant Principal's Message

Working Bee

Wow another fantastic turn out to our Working Bee on Sunday!!!  Thankfully the weather was kind to us and we managed to complete a range of tasks including – trimming hedges, sweeping tan bark, tidying garden beds, sanding and painting benches, mending the stone retaining wall near the basketball courts.

A special thanks to the following attendees –

Daniel & Maddie Warne, Bella Jordan, Jayne, Mylo & Otis Grenfell, John and Ava Dakis, Saluni family, Brett, Lisa & Greer Marshall, Jarvinen family, Lowe family, Kylie and Scott Dickson, Pichotka family, Korina Galatis, Saniano family, Martin, Lily & Feya Shrives, Bligh family and Marie Manserra.

We also had a visit from four members of the Moorabbin Lion’s Club who presented the school with a donation that went towards the cost of the amazing deck around the huge tree, near the junior playground, which has just been completed.

A huge thank you to the Lion’s Club for their generosity.

Concert

Well we are on the count down to the ‘Moorabbin Mystery Inc.’ concert and what a production it is going to be.

Students, teachers and parents have been working super hard with rehearsing songs, dances and preparing costumes.

The concert will take place at the ‘Kingston Town Hall’ on Thursday 14th September.

We request that the students arrive at the hall at 6.30pm, come upstairs and enter through the side door to meet their teachers and begin preparations for the evening. Parents assisting the classes please come at 6.30pm also.

It is requested that, all other parents and guests, not come upstairs until the concert hall doors open at 6.45pm - helping stop congestion up on the top floor as students are trying to enter.

Teachers will be on the stairs to assist the students into the hall.

Both sets of doors (upstairs) will be open at 6.45pm and teachers will usher you up, collect the tickets and give out the programs.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Athletics

The 70 students who attended the MPSSA Athletic sports at Duncan McKinnon Reserve last week did MPS proud with their behavior and sportsmanship.  Congratulations to them all.

Mrs. Kelly has included a report and photos of the sports in this newsletter.

Prep Tasters

This year we have introduced a program called ‘Prep Taster’. This is 3 sessions held in Term 3 where four year old kinder students, from a wide range of kindergartens /daycare centers, are invited to come and experience what it is like to be part of a Prep class.

These are in addition to the six network wide transition sessions offered in Term 4.

The 3 sessions where :

  1.       Cooking – making herb play doh
  2.       MSL & craft related activities
  3.       Teddy Bear’s Picnic

On average, we had 20 children attend each session and from the feedback we received, they all thoroughly enjoyed their time spent as Preps at MPS.

A big thank you to our 2017 Prep teachers – Miss Ramanauskas and Miss Samuels, who organised, promoted and conducted these sessions, which have been a huge success.

Thanks also to Miss Manserra for her support with the ‘Prep Taster’ sessions.

Welcome back Mrs. Angelides

Next Monday 18th September we welcome back Mrs. Angelides and I am sure she will look tanned and rested, with lots of stories of her adventures to share.

Good to have you back.

2017 District Athletics

We had another great day full of nerves and effort. All students did their best in their events and were willing to assist wherever they could. The teachers appreciated the sportsmanship and behaviour by our students on the day. Moorabbin Primary School won the ‘ 2017 Aggregate Award’ from the other 7 schools we competed against. All the training at lunchtimes must have improved our students performances as we had 10 students qualify for the Kingston Athletics Competition. We wish Sophie 56C- Long Jump & Relay, Millie 56C – 1500 metres and relay, Eva 56C – Triple Jump, Kai 56C – 800 m, Quinn 34L – Discus, Charlton 34L – Shot Put, Holly 56S – Shot Put, Sam 56T – 1500m, Aria 56T – Relay, Jada 56C – Relay.

I would like to thank the following parents – Mladin Canadi, Chris Jarvinen, Alister Perry and teachers – Mrs Triplik, Mr Corrigan, Mrs Slade, Mrs McKenna, Mr Leeden who all who helped me and gave up their time to trial and train the competitors.

Announcing Our Greetings Card Fundraiser

Dear MPS families,

Next week, on Tuesday 19th September, we will be beginning a fundraising drive to raise money for our outdoor amenities, including a new playground at the front of our school. The drive will run over the school holidays with all monies raised to be returned by end of the first week of term 4. We are hoping to raise a significant amount and need your help and support.

Each family will be given a small carry bag containing only 5 packs of birthday & greeting cards to sell. We understand that selling items can be a challenge so we have kept it to only 5 items to help all our families be involved, there is however, no obligation to sell all 5. If you are unable to sell all your packs, you can return them to school at the start of term 4. Alternatively, any family wishing to sell more than 5, please contact me and I will arrange extra packs for you.

We will also have packs of Seed embedded Christmas Cards available for purchase from the office. These beautiful packs contain 4 cards with daisy seeds in a small paper Christmas tree, that can be planted in the garden. At only $7.50 per pack (less than $2 per card), they are great value. If you are interested, please see the office staff or contact me for details.

Thank you for your support. We are grateful for your involvement in helping us fundraise for Moorabbin Primary School.

Yours sincerely,
Heidi Lonergan
