From the Principal...

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese’s Primary School,

MAY 21 @ 6:30PM - 8:00PM

I trust that all the mothers, grandmothers, carers of our school community enjoyed the love of their families on Mother’s Day. We pray especially for those who struggle with the challenges of motherhood and those who are battling illnesses at this time. We thank you, beloved Father, for giving us Mary who is the true model of grace, love and compassion.

The cardmaking workshop that was held last Thursday after school was very well attended. How lovely to see so many dads helping their children to cut, paste, stick and glitter to create Mother’s Day cards filled with love. Thank you to all the teachers who stayed back to assist and to those who organised the event!

The Mother’s Day stall was hugely successful and I am sure the mums enjoyed seeing their children’s proud faces as they unwrapped the gifts that were purchased. Thank you to the team of mums, Marzena, Rita, Dianne, Vanessa, Mel, Lauren, Damien and Joe who helped with the stall. Your support and assistance is very much appreciated.

Our Mother’s Day afternoon tea and special assembly were also well attended. I would like to thank the staff who assisted with the setup of the afternoon tea and in preparing the children to present such heartfelt messages to their mums, step-mums, grandmothers and special carers.

If you have a child who is expected to begin school at St Therese’s in 2020, please contact the office as soon as possible for an enrolment form. This helps us greatly in our future planning.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) commenced this week. If you have a child in Years Three and/or Five please ensure they are at school on time and are well rested.

Tuesday 14th May - Writing/Language Conventions

Wednesday 15th May - Reading

Thursday 16th May - Numeracy

ANTI-BULLYING WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS - Tuesday May 21 @ 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Has your child ever come home and said they were bullied? Does your child access social media? If you answered yes to these questions then this workshop is for you! Children in Years 3-6 will be involved in sessions throughout the day and parents are invited to come along to the adult session in the evening. Please put this date in your diary and come along!

We wish our Taiko Drummers the best of luck as they represent our school on Sunday 19th May at the Japanese Festival in Box Hill. Andrews Sensei was able to bring back with her brand new Happy Coats for our team, they look so professional in them!

Have a great week everyone.

God Bless

Michelle Bruitzman

Upcoming Fundraising Events

This year, we are fundraising to update the children’s playground equipment and to create garden spaces around the school, such as a sensory garden and/or a prayer garden. Our aim is to raise $10,000 in 2019. Please help by volunteering for one or more of the fundraising events.

St Therese’s 30th Anniversary Celebrations

As part of the St Therese’s Anniversary celebrations we would like to design and build a Japanese Prayer Garden that will go out the front of our Chapel. Each family is invited to contribute to the design of the garden. Last week, families were sent instructions and paper to draw and submit a design. The designs will be judged and the winners will provide the inspiration for our Japanese Prayer Garden.
