Parent Opinion Survey

We're conducting a survey to find out what you think of our school.

The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria.  All responses to the survey are anonymous.

The survey helps our school gain an understanding of how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use the results to inform school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. It can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.

The survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi.

Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September.

For parents/carers who are unable to access the survey please contact Sandra Monaghan in the Office to arrange for online access to be made available at school.

We welcome to MPW Gini Merange who will be working two days a week at MPW  in Hall/Teaching support and Alistair Longley who is our new ICT Technician.

Education News

Australian Mathematics Competition

On Friday  28th July a group of students from grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition.

The competition had been advertised in the newsletter and advertised throughout the school for a month before entries closed.

The competition papers have been posted to the Australian Mathematics Trust for scoring and each student will receive an analysis of how they went in the competition in the near future.

It was exciting to observe the students tackling the problems.  The students are allowed to use any materials that would usually be available in their classrooms to solve the problems.

One focus of the Mathematics Action Teamhas been teaching problem solving and our Mathematics coach Michael Minas has been working with teachers, in classrooms, across the school. This year students were observed using 'manipulatives' and a variety of efficient strategies to help them solve the problems.

The questions are designed to get more difficult as the students move the competition.

Here is a sample question that you might like to discuss over the dinner table tonight.

All of the digits from 0 to 9 are used to form two 5-digit numbers. What is the smallest possible difference between these two numbers?

A big congratulation to all the students that participated. WELL DONE!

Japan Tour

On Tuesday 8th of August an information evening will be held for participants and families for the Japan Tour departing on the 18th of September. The information session will be held at 6pm.

Our second whole school music incursion will be on Tuesday 5th September, 2017.

Zeeko will hold two performances in the gym:

10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Time table to be confirmed closer to the event.

Zeeko perform songs of Ocean, Air & Earth. Over the course of an hour, the musicians of Zeeko transport students on a journey across the earth’s ecosystem.

This eclectic rock band – with male and female voices, guitar, bass and percussion – compose original songs about fast food, golden frogs and the deep ocean, with influences ranging from bluegrass, the Caribbean, jazz and ambient music. With glass bottles, squeaky toys and body percussion students are able to engage their own creativity to explore a fundamental message: nature is calling to us, and it’s time to listen.

Lost Property

In 2016 - 40kg of unnamed clothing and

30 items of unnamed plastic containers were donated to charity each month.

Our lost property is managed by parent volunteers and we need your help to reduce this huge workload and loss of property.

You can help by:

  • ensuring all belongings are clearly marked with student's names and room numbers
  • regularly check (and encourage your child/ren to check) for their lost property
  • remember it is the responsibility of students and families to regularly check lost property and reclaim items

When is unnamed lost property cleared and donated to charity?

  • Last Friday of every month

Where is lost property?

In the causeway at the entry to room 7 and 8 (near the toilet block off the little adventure playground).
