Principal's report

Movie Night

Next Friday March 24 we will be holding our annual movie night. This is a fantastic opportunity for community to come together and enjoy a family evening under the stars – weather permitting.

All funds will go toward the purchase and installation of new water bubblers (See photo below). Fundraising last year raised $20,367.64 and we are hoping that the extra $7642.82 required to fund the installation will be raised as soon as possible.  The old water troughs will be removed. New water bubblers are to be installed around the school, including a water bubbler to be located near the adventure playground adjacent the Tiger Turf. The bubblers have the additional facility for children to fill their water bottles, come in varying heights and a variety of colors. The Green Team are in the process of consultation regarding to the colors to be chosen and have put together a video encouraging community members to attend the movie night

Please see the 'Movie Night' flyer further in this newsletter, please enjoy the video below.

Ride to School Day

Thank you to everyone who contributed in making today’s Ride to School Day such a success. It is undoubtedly necessary to ensure children develop an awareness of the importance of regular physical activity.

Curriculum Day

Tuesday March 14 was a curriculum (pupil free) day. On this day there was professional development and workshops in KidsMatter and Restorative Practices led by Dave Vinegrad (with a focus on difficult behaviors). Thank you to the  Wellbeing Team for organising the day.

Room 2

A letter has been sent home to parents/carers of children in room 2 informing them that Karen Ghosn will be on leave for the remainder of the year. The process to appoint a replacement teacher to commence at the beginning of term 2 is currently underway.

Professional learning

Thank you to Lyn Neill from the Regional Network for conducting a pragmatics professional learning session with the ES classroom support staff this week.

New School Councilor Induction

This week the new school councilors took part in an induction process focusing on the role of the school councilors in ensuring the continuing good governance of MPW. Topics addressed included the role of school council, the role of the subcommittees, conflict of interest and the role of the school councilor as one not of advocacy but of oversight. The new school council will be meeting on Monday 27th of August and as a new school council will undertake an induction session on Tuesday 18th of April.

Rain Fish

During term one, the 2/3 classes (rooms 7, 8 and 9) has been exploring poetry by reading a variety of poems, including Rain Fish by Lois Ehlert. This text uses descriptive language and collage to detail the creation and journey of a rain fish.

We then made rain fish out of rubbish found around the school and crafts in our rooms, as well as writing some of our own rain fish poems and class books.

Lost Property

In 2016 - 40kg of unnamed clothing and

30 items of unnamed plastic containers were donated to charity each month.

Our lost property is managed by parent volunteers and we need your help to reduce this huge workload and loss of property.

You can help by:

  • ensuring all belongings are clearly marked with student's names and room numbers
  • regularly check (and encourage your child/ren to check) for their lost property
  • remember it is the responsibility of students and families to regularly check lost property and reclaim items

When is unnamed lost property cleared and donated to charity?

  • Last Friday of every month

Where is lost property?

In the causeway at the entry to room 7 and 8 (near the toilet block off the little adventure playground).
