From the Principal...

Dear Families,

This coming Wednesday 26 February is Ash Wednesday. We will celebrate the Beginning of the School Year and Ash Wednesday at our 9:00am Whole School Mass.  We warmly invite you to join us if you can.

Next week we will welcome Fr Anthony Cruz who joins the Parish this coming Tuesday, 25th February, as Parish Administrator.  Father’s first Mass will be celebrated at 9.00 a.m. on Tuesday at St Thomas More Church, Belgrave.

Open Water Learning Experience & Sink or Swim

Last Friday’s whole school excursion to Aspendale Beach was both an important and successful day. The primary purpose of the day was to address Water Safety, which falls under the domain of Health & Physical Education. The day was conducted by qualified instructors from Life Saving Victoria, with the purpose of teaching the children life saving techniques and water safety messages. The children were divided into groups and rotated through a range of theoretical and practical activities. It was great to have so many parents attend the day and assist at crucial times, such as when it became time to organise the children and prepare them for the return bus journey. We know all the children had a fun day, they learned a lot, and we thank Bendigo Bank for funding the experience.

Parents and Friends (P&F) - ALL WELCOME!

All parents at St Paul's are members of the Parents and Friends (P&F).  We have an executive group that includes Jacqui Cook as our P&F President,  with Sally Zylinski (Vice President), Tameka Groen (Treasurer) and Nicole Osborne (Secretary). The P&F is responsible for our fundraising initiatives for which we are very grateful.  Our P&F are always looking for assistance!

Tomorrow, Friday 21 February at 2.00pm, our P&F will hold a "Meet and Greet" as their first meeting.  Unfortunately I am at Professional Learning Conference that day, but I really encourage anyone interested in being a part of the P&F and sharing your ideas to go along.  ANYONE and EVERYONE is invited and warmly welcome.  This will be held in the school/church foyer.

Parent Teacher Transition Interviews

Parent Teacher Transition Interviews will be held on Wednesday 26 February.  Booking details have been sent home.

  • PLEASE NOTE:  School will finish at 1.00pm on 26 February

Interviews run for 10 minutes and will be held in your child's classroom. The smooth running of our Parent-Teacher Transition interviews relies on all parents keeping to the timetable. Please consider other parents and end on time. If you need more time with a particular teacher, please arrange a separate meeting or phone call. Students are not expected to attend these appointments with you.

To make the most of your interviews, parents may wish to consider the following questions:

1. What are your child's strengths?
2. Where would you like to see your child develop further this year?
3. What are your child's interests?
4. Is there anything in your child's life outside school that could be impacting on their educational development?

Have Your Say!

We received the following communication from Victorian Electoral Commission:

The Victorian Electoral Commission is carrying out a subdivision review of Yarra Ranges Shire Council and wants your input.  The review looks at adjustments to ward boundaries to ensure each voter is equitably represented in the upcoming local council elections.  The VEC has released a preliminary report with proposed changes to the boundaries of the following wards: Billanook Ward, Chandler Ward, Chirnside Ward, Lyster Ward, Ryrie Ward and Streeton Ward.
The report is available:

  • online at
  • by calling 131 832 or
  • for inspection at council offices during business hours.

You can have your say on the proposed changes to ward boundaries by making a submission to the VEC.
Submissions must reach the VEC by 5.00 pm on Wednesday 18 March 2020.
Submissions can be made:

For more information on the review process, visit or call 131 832.

School Closure Day

Our Term 1 School Closure Day is on Friday 6 March.  There is no school for students on Friday 6 March.  Staff will be engaged in professional learning around intervention and updating our anaphylaxis training.

Fitness Friday Walk to School

As I am off site tomorrow there will be no staff attending 'Fitness Friday' tomorrow, however we thank Greg Moody who will be walking from Woolworths at 8.20am - what a great way to start the day!

It's ALL HAPPENING at St Paul's!

I ask that you visit the "What's On At St Paul's" page further in this newsletter.  We have lots of fantastic news to celebrate and share with you!

Kind Regards,

Michael Watt

Fee Support for Families

Do you have a valid Concession Card or Health Care Card (HCC)?

If so, you could be entitled to financial support in the form of:

1.  Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF)

The CSEF is a state government funded scheme to assist eligible families with payments for their child’s camps, sports, and excursion activities run by their school. To be eligible, parents must hold a valid means-tested concession card, see further information on the flyer below.

  • Families who received CSEF support in 2019 do not need to re-apply as the application will remain active for 2020.  However, if you have an additional student who has commenced school this year, you will need to contact the office to add them to your application.
  • If you have not received CSEF support in the past and are unsure as to whether you qualify please contact the school office to discuss eligibility and/or to request an Application form.

2.  Health Care Card Holder Discounts

Please note holders of valid and current Australian Government Health Care/Concession Cards may also be eligible for fee relief of $500 towards school fees/levies for the current year.  If you have any queries or feel you may be eligible, please contact the school office.

The Catholic System also provides additional funding to the school, per eligible child. The funds for this additional support are provided by Catholic Education Melbourne and can be used to provide a portion of additional fee relief for eligible families.
