Issue Three

This bushfire season has tried to break down and extinguish the values that we stand for, testing all those affected to the very core. But in true Australian fashion, the communities have banded together and our alliance and bonds as a proud nation has never been stronger. Now it is our turn. We urge you to support us in reaching this goal and call on you to actively participate in our fundraising initiatives in any way that you can.

 A message from our Captains

Come on Nossal, it's time to respond

These past few months have been a defining period in Australia’s history. Some of the worst bushfires this country has ever seen have ravaged what were once the beautiful sweeping forests and plains of Eastern Victoria - quite close to home. In accordance with our proud Australian spirit, we as the Nossal community, feel that it is only right that we do our small part in helping these battered towns and shattered people get back on their feet and recover from this tragedy. One of the communities affected by these horrendous events, is the Swifts Creek P-12 School, situated in East Gippsland and were fortunately spared of any serious damage to the school itself, thanks to community efforts. Swifts Creek, with a population of around 130 students, did however, watch in fear as their beloved town fell apart around them.

As students, this has hit us particularly hard since the people affected are just like us, some of them are even as young as five. Determined to make a change, the Student Representative Council of Nossal have decided to hold a community fundraiser by way of a whole school free dress day along with the quintessentially Australian sausage sizzle on Friday 13 March. Our theme for our free dress day will be red and orange, focusing on the work done by the brave and hard-working people in the emergency services.

We will also be accepting donations from local businesses, generous individuals and compassionate families to help cover the costs associated with running a large community fundraiser such as this.

As a community, our ambitious goal is to raise a minimum $3,000 to help the Swifts Creek P-12 School recover from the bushfires. These funds will aid Swifts Creek to purchase new equipment and resources to help their students thrive in light of such a life-changing tragedy. This is something we cannot do alone.

Looking for your support

The major fundraiser for this term will be the Free Dress Day and sausage sizzle and we want to achieve our goal but to do that we will face some associated expenses.

We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Berwick who are going to attend the school on Friday 13 March and operate their large barbeque for us.  This is a generous contribution and we thank them most sincerely for their sponsorship of the event.

But we still have to purchase our supplies of sausages and vegie burgers as well as bread, sauce and serviettes etc. These expenses are going to have to be paid for out of our fundraising money, so we would again be appreciative of any donations that individuals, families or businesses could provide.

All support will be directed straight to our project to assist the students of Swifts Creek P-12 School, so please consider how you might support us and make a donation. Cash donations can be made at the Nossal High School office.

We would love to have your support and help us achieve our goal!
