From the Principal...

Dear Parents and Friends of St Therese's,

"I ask that you have the grace to be very close to your children, letting them grow, but being by their side. They need you, your presence, to be there, your love!" Pope Francis

Pope Francis speaks about the challenges of being a father in today's world. He tells us that our children need their fathers to be patient, wise, kind, loving and above all present. This can be a difficult task, especially for those who may be distant from their families.

At the Bruitzman house this Sunday, the boys and I will enjoy lunch with Derek, my husband and my Dad. I know though that for many families, having this time is not an option as perhaps the family does not include a dad anymore due to separation, illness or death. I pray for all the dad's this Sunday who are on earth or in heaven and pray for peace for all families!

I look forward to meeting many of the fathers and grandfathers this week at the Father's Day Breakfast on Thursday morning from 7:30am.

Reading is my Super Power

Congratulations to all the children who came along on Thursday last week dressed up as their favourite book character. It was terrific to see so many grandparents, parents and special friends come along enjoy morning tea, activities with the children and listen to a special performance led by our Taiko drummers. I would like to acknowledge all the staff who dressed up and organised fun activities for the children to participate in.

This year's Book Week theme was Reading is My Super Power. Learning to read really is a superpower and opens many doors that can lead to a bright future. Please, continue to encourage your children to read each day at home! Happy reading.

District Athletics - First Place!!!

St Therese's competed at the District Athletics last week at Casey Fields. They did so well in all events and the organisers commented at how well mannered our children were!

Congratulations to all the children who competed. We are very excited to announce that St Therese's won the event overall! Congratulations to Mr Sanchez who supported the children and organised the event. He couldn't wait to get back to school and show off the trophy that we won! Special thanks to the parents who attended and helped on the day!

First Holy Communion celebrations

Eucharist is unique among the sacraments as it is at the heart of the Catholic faith. For Catholics, the Eucharist, or Mass, is the most powerful way we encounter the real presence of Jesus Christ. Sunday after Sunday, Catholics gather to celebrate the Eucharist, the ritual in which, by the power of the Holy Spirit, bread and wine are transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. We who celebrate are also transformed, becoming Christ’s presence to others, and recognising the presence of Christ in others. Please pray for the children who will celebrate their First Holy Communion this weekend.

Father's Day celebrations

A reminder that the Father's Day stall is on next Wednesday, August 28. On Thursday, August 29 dads, grandparents or special friends are invited to our Father's Day Breakfast. Bacon and egg rolls will be available from 7:30am till 9:00am. I look forward to seeing you there.

School Closure Day: Friday, August 30

Don't forget the school will be closed on Friday, August 30. The staff will be involved in professional learning with Dr Sr Margaret Caswell who will be speaking on teaching scripture in schools. The staff from St Agatha's and St Thomas the Apostle will join us.

School Advisory Committee (SAC) News

At last week's School Advisory Committee meeting, we discussed ways of engaging parents at our school. It was decided that a 'Suggestions eForm' be available to parents to enable communication between the parent community and the SAC. If you have a suggestion that will contribute to the positive and happy running of our School please consider using the eForm. It can be found in the School News section of the newsletter and right HERE! All the suggestions we will be discussed at the SAC meetings and a response will be provided after the next SAC meeting.

God Bless,

Michelle Bruitzman

Principal
