Our Vision and Values

Our Vision Statement

Heathmont East Primary School epitomises the Victorian Curriculum that proposes that students need to develop a set of knowledge, skills and behaviours which will prepare them for success in a world which is complex, rapidly changing, rich in information and communications technology, demanding high order knowledge and understanding and increasingly global in its outlook and influences.

To succeed in that world, all students need to develop the capacities to:
- Manage themselves as individuals and in relation to others
- Understand the world in which they live, and
- Act effectively in that world.

Our Values

As a school community, we have created a set of values which reflect our philosophy and community at HEPS. Each term we focus on a different value where students engage in lessons to develop a deeper understanding and methods in which to espouse the value. At our weekly assembly, the value is discussed and one child is selected as ‘Star of the Week’ for displaying the particular value in focus.

Term 1: Respect and Confidence

Term 2: Teamwork

Term 3: Responsibility

Term 4: Acceptance

Principal's Report

Year 3 – 6 Athletics Day.

On Monday, I had the pleasure of being able to see our students interacting with each other, staff and volunteers at the school’s Athletics Day at Proclamation Park, Ringwood. I noticed that students were encouraging and supportive of each other, celebrating in successes and reassurance for others who had not achieved their desired result. I also noticed resilience from within a number of students, who despite feeling physically uncomfortable due to being puffed out or a minor fall, continued to compete and give their best in their event. Well done and thank you to all who made the day a success for our children.

Year 4 Camp

Next week our Year 4 students will be attending camp at Mt Evelyn. Throughout their time away, they will be working to develop skills across several areas of the curriculum, including recognising their own personal strengths; challenging themselves in new and exciting activities all the while developing skills in being persistent, adaptable and resilient. Another key learning area that will be covered during the camping program is in development of further understanding of Environmental Science through the camp activities and time at Silvan Dam. Our students will continue to building upon their positive relationships with their peers and staff.

Chaplain

Our long standing Chaplain, Libby White, has recently notified me of her intention to retire at the end of Term 3. I know that Libby has been a source of great strength, assistance and support to many students and their families throughout her 9 years at Heathmont East Primary School. I wish Libby well in her future endeavors and encourage anyone who has benefited from her individual and caring support to wish her well in the next couple of weeks. Thank you Libby for your contribution to our students at HEPS!

Thank you to all of the parents who are introducing themselves to me when I am on morning yard duty. I am slowly learning names and will continue to work on getting to know more of our community.

Active Travel Team

It was great to see a number of parents attend the Road Safety Pop-Up Stall on Tuesday.  Active Travel consultant, Tara Watson was pleased with the responses of road safety feedback and ideas.

Thank you to those parents who have completed the safe travel to school survey.  If you haven't yet had a chance, we would greatly appreciate if you could complete this 4 minute survey:   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HEPSFamily2019

Students in levels 3 to 6 will are also completing a student version of the survey, while our younger students are drawing and writing about active travel.

Tara Watson meet with the JSC earlier this week where they talked about what safe active travel currently looks like, how it could look in the future and what we could do to further educate and support safe travel.  The JSC are looking forward to Tara coming back to HEPS in two weeks time to work on this further.

Wellbeing Profiler

Last term, students in levels 4-6, parents and staff completed the wellbeing profiler survey.   HEPS was one of 27 Maroondah network  schools to take part in this data collection.

HEPS and the Maroondah City Council are using the information from this survey to inform future wellbeing focus areas for the school and local community.  The Maroondah Council and Melbourne University are working with focus groups to help unpack and analyse the data.  Our initial analysis highlights strengths of gratitude and strong peer and parent connections.  The trend across the network as areas for development are stress and anxiety.

Please contact with me if you are interested in attending a student and parent Maroondah focus group to look at this data on Monday 2nd September from 4.30 to 6.30pm at Federation Estate - Greenwood Avenue, Ringwood.
