School-Based Work Program

Jesse Booker - Year 11 School-based work program @ SIDE

Gaining the required experience, developing the necessary employability skills or trying to decide what career path to take can be a daunting task for young people in their final years of schooling.

A positive role model for other young people trying to achieve the above aims is Jesse Booker who has made the most of his opportunities by embarking on a School-based Traineeship (SBT) with Mick Sippe Carpentry. Mick provides the on-the-job training while the more formal aspect requires Jesse to complete his Certificate II Construction Pathways.  The SBT together with his Workplace Learning program is providing Jesse with first-hand experience of the world of work.  This program only works well due to the commitment of employer organisations to local youth. SIDE is very appreciative of their efforts.

Happenings from Week 3 & 4

Book Fair

How amazing are the costumes on our students and staff from the Book Fair parade on Tuesday?!? Thanks to Mrs Clune for organising Book Fair again this year, and congratulations to all of the fabulous participants and those lucky enough to score a book voucher.

Walk Safely to School Day

On Friday 17th May, the students and teachers walked from the Muka Pool to School for National Walk to School Safely Day. It is an Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.

School Information

Winter Uniform

It's great to see everyone in uniform! Remember:

  • Country Week jackets are acceptable (including previous year jackets) or;
  • MDHS jumper (available at the Newsagency).
  • Winter sport jumpers are not acceptable to wear at school.
  • Skirts must be worn over leggings. Students cannot wear leggings on their own.

Devices at School

Students are not allowed to bring devices to school.

If they do bring them it is at their own risk and they need to remain off and in their bags.

Triple P Tip

JUGGLING WORK AND FAMILY – IT CAN BE EASIER!

Trying to juggle the demands of work and family can be very tough. But when you get the balance right, life will feel a lot easier.

Too much pressure from either work or family can seriously affect our lives and the lives of those around us. When work stress spills over into home life, we might argue more, have problems with our relationships and suffer health problems too. Stress from home can impact your work in the same way. You might even struggle to do your job properly. So how can you get the balance right?

A good rule to start with is that when you are at home your family is your focus. And when you are at work your job is your focus.

At home, try to make your mornings run as smoothly as possible. If you start your day calmly then you won’t be bringing any stress from home to work. Set some ground rules and put a leaving home routine in place. You can even teach your kids to do things for themselves, like getting dressed.  At work, you should try to do hard tasks early in the day. By doing this you will be taking less stress home with you at the end of the day. Think of some ways to unwind and relax after work that aren’t going to affect your family’s evening routine. Regular exercise and healthy eating can really help.
