Statements of Intent (SOI)

Every two weeks our teachers produce a fortnightly planner which is referred to as an SOI.  This sets out an intention of what will be taught in the classroom during that period.  These can be accessed on the school website and are displayed on the year level communication boards.

Welcome back everyone
Students commence the term in their new classrooms

It was wonderful to see the students returning to school on Monday.  We hope everyone had a relaxing holiday. 

During the holidays all furniture and resources were moved into the new building and classes commenced in the new learning spaces on the first day of term.

Thank you to our dedicated teachers for the time they spent at school during the holidays setting up their room and supporting their colleagues. The rooms look magnificent. The vast majority of Prep to Year 6 teachers spent time at school during the holidays to ensure the learning environment looked inviting when the students arrived. 

Thank you also to Cath Lamb, Business Manager, and Shane Dawes, Facilities and School Council member, for their support and high level organisation of all the extra contractor tasks associated with the project during the holidays .  

The students have quickly resumed the routines of their school day as evident in the great sense of calm around the school. 

 

Fundraising:Technology resources purchased

Our technology resources have been further expanded due to the amazing fundraising efforts of our parent community. Thank you everyone.  The resources will enrich the technology program. 

Thank you to Lisa Gardiner for managing the purchases.  Additional items are being investigated to ensure  a range of resources, suitable for Prep to Year 6 students, is available to enable the delivery of a challenging and stimulating technology curriculum.

 

Minato–ku visitors arrive next Tuesday

Once again BPS was invited by the International Student Services Unit, International Education Division within the Department of Education, to host visitors from Japan. This is a recurring relationship between the schools in the Minato-ku area and we are excited to continue this tradition again this year. Our visitors from Minato-ku will arrive at school on Tuesday 23rd July in the afternoon and will be greeted by their host families. We extend a huge thank you to our host families who will kindly share their home and their family with our visitors. We know they will be made to feel very welcome.

Such valuable visits require a significant level of planning to ensure the visit is a success. We extend a   huge thank you to Gall Sensei for her leadership of this event. Thank you also to our office staff for liaising with our host families to help them prepare for their visitors.

Sensei has also organised a range of activities for our students, our visitors from Minato-ku and our host families.

We are sure our Japanese students, their teachers and principals will return with many happy memories of their time with us.

 

 Japan Australia Day Assembly and Dress Up Day
9.10am Wednesday 24th July

We will welcome our visitors from Minato-ku at a whole school assembly in the hall next Wednesday. During this special assembly our Japanese visitors, students, parents and teachers will be treated to a display of Australian animals and a performance by our Year 3 students.

On this day all our students are invited to dress up in either Japanese or Australian costumes or colours. During the day students will participate in Australian and Japanese activities to further develop their understanding of Japanese culture, customs and traditions. 

Building Community Relationships - Parent Expo

To support families and build community we have organised a range of amazing speakers to present a variety of workshops related to initiatives in the school, information to assist families and the school governance framework. 

Parents are invited to register for three presentations, each of 25 minutes duration, and rotate through their nominated presentations  between 6.30-8.00pm.

Presentations on the night will include:

1. The Bayside Youth Resilience Project:                                           

Our survey data highlighted some elements that will provide parents with important information about our students' perceptions. Louise will describe the purpose of the project, the results of the student resilience survey  to inform parents about  ways in which they can build and strengthen resilience in their children.

2. School Council Governance:                                                   

Bruce will expand on the role and functions of School Council within schools and the various subcommittees that contribute to and support the ongoing evolution of the school.

3. 21st Century Learning Design :     

Rowena will explain the characteristics of 21st century learners and the work she has been undertaking with our staff this year to develop characteristics and qualities within our students that will support them as learners and equip them for life beyond school.

4. Sustainability Practices:                   

Lindy will outline sustainability programs in the school and the broader community and sustainability practices within the home.

5. Parent Wellbeing:                               

 Melinda will focus on the importance of  parent wellbeing practices within the family unit.

6. ‘Beaumaris. A creative past, an exciting future. A treasure trove in your own backyard’.

Jamie and the parent team will outline the architectural significance of homes in the area, the history of the local community and the community of artists and creatives within Beaumaris. Jamie will offer ways families can become involved in a range of groups that support these features of our local community.

7. Bayside Earth Sciences Society:

Ray will describe the fascinating work undertaken by the society along the Beaumaris and Mentone foreshore and the significance of the sites at a local, national and international level. He will outline ways in which families may like to become involved.

School News

Library - Thank You

On Monday 20th May, we held our Grandparents and Special Persons Day. Families were invited to donate a book to our library. Our families bought and donated over 40 books which have now been received, catalogued, labelled and covered and will be on display for the students in the library for the next two weeks before heading to the shelves for borrowing. We send another huge thank you to our generous families for donating these delightful books, on a range of subjects, giving our library a magnificent boost.

Our annual School Disco is on Friday 2 August 2019

Prep students can wear their disco outfits to school for the day.

Prep  2.30pm – 3.30pm  (joined by buddies)  3.10pm - 3.30pm

Years 1 & 2 (3.30pm ARRIVAL AND SIGN IN)       3.45pm – 4.45pm

 Years 3 & 4 (4.45pm ARRIVAL AND SIGN IN)       5.00pm – 6.00pm

COST $7.00 per child. Consent and payment via Compass

Years 5 & 6 (6.00pm ARRIVAL AND SIGN IN)      6.15pm – 7.30pm

COST $12.00 per child as it includes pizza! Consent and payment via Compass

Every child must have their own permission slip.

 

Please complete the permission slip (one for every child attending) and return to the office by Tuesday 30 August.  No late payments will be accepted after this date. 

 

For safety reasons no pass outs will be available.  All students must be escorted to and collected from the Hall entrance and exit by an adult.  Volunteer parents will supervise all sessions and First Aid Officer/s will be assigned for each session.

All visitors to the school are required to report to the office to sign in and out.  A ‘visitor’s badge’ will be issued.

Appointments with teachers must be made via the school email: beaumaris.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au 

 

ABSENCES

Student absences should be reported to the school before 9.00am via the Compass portal or phoning the school office.   Any unexplained absences will result in parents/guardians receiving an email at 9.30am on the day of non-attendance requesting they update Compass with the reason for non-attendance.

 

LATE ARRIVAL OR EARLY LEAVE

In order to minimise disruption to class and maximise learning opportunities for our students, we would like to remind you that the school day starts promptly at 9.00am.  If your child is late for any reason, please sign in at the office via the Compass Kiosk and obtain a late pass to be given to the classroom teacher.  

Please ensure that if your child is leaving early that they are signed out on the Compass Kiosk before collecting them from the classroom.
