New arrangements and special events for 2020
This term we will be trialling ringing the first bell of the day at 8.50am. This is five minutes earlier than last year.
The reason for the trial is to look at the effect on the start of the day’s first learning session. By having a slightly earlier start we are aiming for all students to be ready in classrooms to commence the first activity of the day promptly by 9.00 am.
At 9.00 am there will be a second bell. Any students who arrive after this time will need to be signed in at the office as they are late.
Information Night for all Year Levels: Wednesday 19th February
Each year the staff prepare an information session for each year level. The information includes an overview of the year’s curriculum, home learning program, camps, excursions and routines for the classroom. Numerous other topics relevant to the year level are also discussed and there is a Q & A time at the end.
Over the past few years, we have noticed a drop off in attendance at these nights, so we are trying a different approach this year. On Wednesday 19th February, between 5:30 and 7:30 pm, the school will be open for families to visit classrooms and attend a short information session for each year level. These will be staggered throughout the night so families can attend the sessions relevant to their children and spend time in their children’s classrooms in between.
Specific details of the Information Night, including a schedule, will be published next week but we ask you to put the date and sometime aside to attend.
A reminder to parents and carers to record absences on COMPASS at the start of the day, before 9 am. After you select the reason for the absence from the drop down box, please include a brief outline of the nature of the absence/illness in the ‘Details/Comment’ box. If your child is sick and attends a doctor, please request a medical certificate and send a copy of this to school.
Grandparents Day: Friday 20th March
Being a Grandparent is a great privilege and we love to see students and their grandparents, or the special people in their lives, spending time in the classroom together. This year Grandparent’s Day will be on Friday 20th March. Please note this in your diaries and we will send out further information in the next few weeks.
Family Movie Night:
Another date to mark down is Saturday 21st March, which is our whole school social night for Term 1. There will be a picnic and movie night on the oval and we hope to see all families enjoying a pleasant evening watching the big screen under the stars. More details will be coming from the PA in the next 2 weeks.
Disabled Car Parking Spot
A friendly reminder to all who utilise our disabled parking spot, at the front of the school, that it is used by a growing number of our families. To ensure everyone needing to use this facility has a fair opportunity, please endeavour to use it in a similar way as the ‘Kiss and Go’ parking spots, at peak pick up and drop off times, by not leaving your car unattended and moving on as soon as your passengers are safely unloaded or are on board.
Thank you Watering Angels
A huge thank you to the Hassett, McCulloch Atkinson, and Hatzis families for their time and effort during the long holiday break to ensure out beautiful new front gardens were watered and continued to thrive. Whilst we were lucky with some intermittent rain, our team of waterers did a super job. Thank you also to Miss Ross for her excellent initiative in organising the roster.
