Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 2. We had a very successful Open Night for new Year 7 students for 2019. Hundreds of people turned up for the tours and presentation. I think we will have to spread our displays out more next year as we were a bit overwhelmed with numbers and things got a bit crowded. We had both current Year 7 and Year 12 students speak and they were engaging and genuine. I must point out that Brandon, one of our Year 12 leaders, reminded me that he was one of the Year 7 presenters in 2013 – an illustration of how quickly time passes in schools.

From the number of people on tours and at the Open Night, we are predicting strong interest in Year 7 places for next year. Looking at our overall numbers, we are going to limit Year 7 places to 225 again to keep our overall numbers around 1400.

Hopefully, students have been telling you about the continual improvement in the grounds, including a new grassed area outside the Science building and the completion of the outdoor classroom area in H courtyard. They will see the same improvements happening around the Doctors in School building soon. However, I would really like to ask your support in talking to your children about their part in maintaining KDC Pride. Although most students are putting their rubbish in the bins, there are unfortunately still some students who are leaving their rubbish in the yard. This is then being exaggerated by the wind and the crows! We are putting so much money and effort into improving the grounds that it becomes a bit disheartening when students don’t play their part. We really want to change the culture so that everyone takes responsibility for keeping the school environment as positive as possible.

We launched our official Facebook page a couple of weeks ago as a positive platform to celebrate achievements and events with our community. If you are a Facebook user, have a look at some of the great photos and videos that have been posted. Important information such as dates or new policies will still be sent to you through Compass.

Italy Trip

ITALY TRIP

I’m pleased to announce the 2018 Italy Trip is going ahead and fast approaching. I thank parents for the deposits that have been made and would like to remind you all that final payment of $4,500 for the trip is due no later than the 15th of June 2018. This is a non-negotiable deadline so please ensure that you have finalised payment prior to or on this date. I’m sure you have already received forms regarding the trip and several more forms will be given to your child in the coming weeks. A final information session will be run several weeks prior to departure and it is necessary that all families attend this session as to allow distribution of final documentation i.e. Boarding passes, information booklets etc. This is also a time for parents to clarify any final questions or concerns. The date for this session is yet to be confirmed so please keep an eye on emails regarding this night. I once again thank all parents and students for being part of this upcoming Italy Trip and for your ongoing support.  We are sure this year will be just as successful and exciting as the last Italy Trip in 2016.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding the trip please do not hesitate to contact me or Ms Vivarelli.

Sinceri saluti

Intermediate & Senior Badminton

Yesterday the intermediate and senior badminton squads competed in the Keilor Division Badminton tournament.
The students competed extremely well and represented the College in a professional manner. The intermediate boys made it through to the grand final, but unfortunately lost. The intermediate girls were defeated in their semi final.

Well done to all involved students on a great day!
