Principal's Reflection

Pakenham Springs Primary School acknowledge and pay respect to the Traditional Owners of the land on which the School stands.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

What an exciting year we have had at the Springs in 2018! I would like to thank the Springs community for the support that I have been given throughout the year.

Together we have seen another year of positive learning experiences.  We have come together on our open afternoons, we have celebrated book week, camps, excursions, sports events, assemblies, discos, celebration days, 100 days of school, House Team days and even days when our staff have dressed up.  Such activities bring us closer together as a community, we have fun together and enjoy each others company, and in doing so we create a community that supports our children to grow, feel safe and understand the power of positive relationships.

2018 saw our very first Springfest where our specialist areas showcased work from the year. This was certainly a highlight of the year as the students proudly showed their work.

We were also very proud to be successful in gaining an inclusive schools grant of $130,000.  This will be an exciting project in the first six months of 2019 as we develop the garden area into an inclusive space.

This week we are undertaking the massive task of shipping off our current furniture to Port Moresby and Kiribati.  This has certainly been a great opportunity for our school community to be involved with a Global project.  Today students have assisted many volunteers from Pacific Assist to pack the furniture into eight shipping containers.  Pacific Assist have arranged for these containers to go to schools in need.  Thank you to our generous community who have donated towards the transportation costs.

I cannot thank the staff enough for their support and hard work every day as we work towards our school’s mission. The leadership team, office staff, and all our teachers and Learning Support Assistants are true professionals who work tirelessly to get the best results for our students.

I would like to thank our School Council on behalf of the community.  They have been an amazing group of parents and teachers to work with.  They provide valuable input into the school and work with us to provide great opportunities for the students. This year we say goodbye to our School Council President, Scott Kendall.  Scott has been a wonderful representative for the community and has held the students’ best interests at heart in each decision.  I thank Scott for the many years as part of Pakenham Springs and wish him and his family well as they finish their primary schooling.

Most importantly the students. They are the reason I come to work each day and why we work so hard. They have worked to achieve their goals and I am exceptionally proud of the progress they have made.  I have enjoyed reading reports and hearing all about the academic progress that has been made throughout the year.

I hope you enjoy these photos from our  Christmas concert held last week.

Junior School News

What an incredibly exciting year 2018 has been at Pakenham Springs Primary School!  There have been so many new specialist subjects, initiatives, celebrations of achievements, new playground equipment and just recently, our very first 'Springfest'.  What an incredible celebration of student learning this was, and an event that the school should be truly proud of.  It was exciting to see so many people in attendance, and not just members of the school community, but members of the broader community as well.  Thank you to everyone that came along on the night to support our school and join in the celebration of learning.

In recent weeks we have been busy finalising staffing and student groupings for 2019, and as of last week, students will be aware of their Classroom Teacher, Room number and classmates for 2019. Our transition sessions have run incredibly smoothly and I am excited about what 2019 will bring.

Students and Teachers in all year levels should feel incredibly proud of their results and accomplishments in 2018.  Working so closely with the Prep, Year One and Year Two teams has given me a great sense of pride in the growth (both academically and physically!) of the students and of the application and commitment of our staff.  We are incredibly fortunate to have such committed and enthusiastic teachers, with such dedicated staff, committed to challenging and bringing out the best in all students.

I look forward to continuing on in my role next year, and being a member of the Pakenham Springs community in what is sure to be another exciting chapter in our school's relatively short history. With planning and priorities already finalised, I look forward to working closely with all key stakeholders to ensure that Pakenham Springs remains a vibrant and exciting learning community, reflecting our three core values of respect, responsibility and resilience.

In the meantime, I hope that everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable break, as well as a very Merry Christmas, shared with loved ones.

Until next year, take care.

Middle School News

Looks like we made it!  Another fantastic year at ‘The Springs’!  There is so much to celebrate and be proud of.  There are also new aspirations and goals to set and work towards in 2019.  At Pakenham Springs Primary School we have high expectations of ourselves and of our students and I hold my head up high knowing we are the best school.

In 2019,  I will continue on as the Assistant Principal of Years 3/4/5.   I have also taken on the role of whole school induction and school survey coordinator.   I am looking forward to working with the new team of teachers and students and of course the families too.   I look forward to the challenge of improving our impressive school survey data from parents, staff and students and will certainly be sharing this throughout the year.

2018 has brought us much to celebrate:

  • Excursions
  • Incursions
  • Camp
  • Extracurricular activities
    • School house events
    • Athletics
    • Froggy Dollars
    • Assembly Springer Awards
    • Springfest

Whilst we look forward to the times ahead, we take a moment to reflect on all we have achieved.

I wish all the ‘Springer’ families a very Merry Christmas / Happy Holiday Break and a very prosperous ‘New-Year’.

Kindest Regards

Farewell to 2018!

Wow!  Another year at the Springs is done and dusted!  It seems like only yesterday that we were settling in for a big and busy 2018 and now we are hurtling towards 2019 at breakneck speed!

Last week we officially recognised the achievements of our Year 6 students at our Graduation Evening.  It gives me a great amount of satisfaction to have the students run the majority of this evening - from introducing guests, presenting speeches about events through the year and also presenting their inspiring Rotary Speeches. All presenters did a fabulous job in such a daunting situation - speaking in front of 500 students and parents is a big deal!  I am so proud of each and every one of our Year 6 students for their Primary School achievements.

Our 2018 Award Winners for the evening were as follows:

Academic Achievement:  Kai Holyoak Sparrow & Tess Gilbert

Award for Numeracy Excellence:  Tareen Loku-Weligamage & Holly Falkingham

Award for Literacy Excellence:  Shaylan Cole & Olivia Sherry

Rotary award for Outstanding School Service:  Jemma Kendall

Latrobe Leadership Award:  Hayley Percy

Pakenham Secondary College SOAR Scholarships:  Kyle O'Donnell & Indie James

PSPS Sports Awards:  Melisa Murselovic, Zahri Burn, Jayden Reeves

PSPS Visual Art Awards:  Sebi Cahir & Isis Huiskens

PSPS STEM Awards:  Cody Gust & Grace Groves

PSPS Media Arts Awards:  Numam Khupno & Hayden Renton

PSPS Library Awards:  Sarah Collins & Skylah Orsolic

Graduation was followed by Celebration Day, where all year 6 students, teachers and specialist teachers (and their Assistant Principal!!) had a great day out at Casey RACE and the Cranbourne Indoor Sports Centre, enjoying water games, indoor sports and just hanging out with friends, eating pizza and relaxing after a huge year!!

I want to take this opportunity to thank our Year 6 teachers, parents and all students for such an amazing year.  I feel so lucky to have been a part of such an enthusiastic and dedicated team in 2018.   It has been a privilege to have watched these students learn and grow throughout their time at Pakenham Springs - take care over the holidays and make your 2019 beginning of Secondary School fabulous!

Have a great week!
