Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you enjoyed some relaxing time over the Easter break. Judging from the students' energy in the grounds this week, they have returned refreshed and happy to see their friends. Many have travelled to country areas for a holiday and thoroughly enjoyed their time away. Attired in summer uniform, given the unseasonal warm weather, the majority of students look smart and well groomed. Thank you for ensuring that this is the case.

First day of Term 2.

We have commenced the term with 1233 students (Pre K to 12). We welcomed back Chloe Adams and Donna Rowe from Parental Leave. We also welcomed Secondary Visual Art teacher Richard Castle who is replacing Amanda Lin for the term. Mr Castle comes to us from a brief stint at Hedland SHS and prior to that taught in Dubai.

Term 2 builds upon the foundation of Term 1 and, as such, is an important period of teaching and learning. Staff will reinforce high standards and expectations as they encourage students to give their personal best and participate actively in curricular and co- curricular offerings. For our senior students, in particular, the focus is firmly on addressing course and certificate requirements. Our ATAR students, for example, are just weeks away from their mid- year examinations.

Anglican Schools Commission Anglican Identity Day

On Monday this week, the Executive, teaching staff and Education Assistants attended the ASC's annual Anglican Identity Day. The day commenced with a Eucharist led by the Right Reverend Hans Christiansen, Assistant Bishop of Perth. This year we heard from two excellent guest speakers; Bishop Hans who reflected upon the Anglican identity of our schools and the importance of fostering this identity for the benefit of our students, staff and wider school communities; and 1996 Olympian Brennon Dowrick who related his journey as an elite gymnast and the lifelong skills that he acquired through this experience. Brennon's presentation was particularly entertaining as he demonstrated a range of gymnastic manouvres on the pommel horse.

Our CEO, the Reverend Peter Laurence OAM, addressed a range of matters including the opening of the ASC's newest school, All Saints Anglican School in Shepparton, Victoria and the progress of the large capital works in the CBD which over a staged build will accommodate the ASC office, the ASC International School and St George's Anglican Grammar School. Long serving staff members of ASC schools were acknowledged for their outstanding contribution to their schools. John Wollaston staff Zoe Lourenco (20 years), Stephen Fox (20 years), Sally Banks (25 years), Brendon Kilmartin (25 years) and Karen Hildebrandt (30 years) are to congratulated.

Anglican Identity Day continues to afford important professional learning and valuable time to reflect on the core values we share as educators in Anglican schools.

The end is nigh

As I begin my last term as Principal I look forward to accumulating many 'heart moments' in the coming weeks that I will treasure in retirement.
